Back from the Schulz Museum

If any of the folks I talked to during my appearance at the Schulz Museum this weekend are reading this: hi! And thank you for dropping by!

The appearance went well, and the folks at the museum were kindly and helpful. I got a chance to look at their current exhibit of original art from dialogueless Peanuts strips – some lovely material there, of course.

I also got the chance to talk to Jeannie Schulz. Among other things we discussed, she showed me copies of several letters she’d gotten in relation to the whole Schulz and Peanuts biography matter – including one from one of the sources on the book, and one from Abraham Twerski, who has written a number of self-help books using Peanuts strips to illustrate points. Rather than recount what those notes say, I’ll just steer you to where Jeannie had posted them in the comments of a blog.

All in all, a good trip. Alas, today I learned that on the day I returned, my friend, mentor, and inspiration, comics writer Steve Gerber (creator of Howard the Duck) passed away from complications of an ongoing condition. So life is full, in ways both good and otherwise. I hope your life is full of the better stuff.

Review: Where’s Snoopy?

The thing it understand about the new hardcover Where’s Snoopy: A Search-and-Find Book by Natalie Shaw and Scott Jeralds is that this isn’t really a puzzle book a la Where’s Waldo? or some of those books of richly detailed photographs where it really takes careful poring over to locate the missing …
