The next Peanuts DVD is…

Coming in January is the remastered DVD release of You’re A Good Sport, Charlie Brown, the motocross racing special. The bonus special will be You’re the Greatest, Charlie Brown, about the decathlon. Neither of these shows have been on DVD before in the U.S.

The special feature on this disk will be a “making of” piece on Good Sport. And for me, your humble AAUGH Blogmaster, this is an extra-special special feature. You see, I’m one of the “talking heads” in this minidocumentary – at least, assuming the editor thinks I had anything of value to say. About two months ago, they contacted me and set up a time for mean to head out to Hollywood. (Well, West Hollywood, close enough.) They slapped some makeup on my face (in order to keep my awesomely beautiful natural visage from blinding all who watch it, of course), sat me in a chair, threw some light on me, and asked me questions. Now, I’m no expert on the making of the animated specials, but the questions were largely about the strips, and how they relate to this special. I’d also gave the producers access to some parts of the AAUGH.com Reference Library, showing them sports-themed Peanuts books and pointing out places where the TV special were adapted fairly directly from the strip. This was my first time doing this kind of gig, and I look forward to seeing what the result was.

And if you want to see the result as well, preorder yourself a copy!

Charles Schulz – The Comic Book

It wasn’t that long ago that we had no comics-format biographies of Charles M. Schulz. Now we have the manga biography and the series-of-strips biography (ooh, steeply discounted at the moment)… and coming December, we have just a basic comic book biography. Tribute: Charles M. Schulz is from Tidal Wave, …

Not Peanuts, but not utterly not Peanuts

I saw a comics writer talking about a new project where he was taking some inspiration from Peanuts – as well as some from other sources — to do a story about a comic strip creator who is bringing his strip to an end, in a way with deep personal …
