Mo Willems will provide the introduction for The Complete Peanuts volume 10.
Now, I suspect that while a few of you will smile at that, others are going “who”? Mo is a former Sesame Street writer who has become a leading children’s book creator. He is the creator of the endearing Knuffle Bunny books, the sweet Elephant and Piggie books, the enjoyable Leonardo the Terrible Monster, and the execrable Edwina, the Dinosaur Who Didn’t Know She Was Extinct. (Hey, they can’t all be gems.)
But best of all, Mo Willems is the creator of Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, which would get my vote as the best comics story of this century. This kids book about a pigeon trying to wheedle his way into a chance to drive a bus is both a great use of comics tools and a smart reflection of all the tricks we use to get what we want. If you’ve got a three year old, buy it for them. If not… slip into the library and read their copy. There are a number of follow-up Pigeon books, also worthwhile and enjoyable, but that first one remains the pinnacle.
I look forward to seeing what Mr. Willems has to say.
