Input gotten

Well, I asked for your input on whether I should cover newsy items that are Peanuts-related, and got more responses for that than for possibly anything that I’ve asked on the blog.. and unfortunately for me the answers were all across the map. Some people really want everything vaguely Peanuts-related through the blog, and would feel that to keep out distasteful matters would be censorship. Others feel like much of the sort of material at hand is sheer pointless gossip. Some were wishy-washy and uncertain and freely admitted that, but arguments on both sides were passionate. And I want to give a big and earnest “thank you” to everyone for everyone to help you make my decision…

But what you’ve left me with is the the toughest position of all, because with no general agreement, I’m going to have to go on making a judgment call on a case-by-case basis. There are some things that to me that are obvious for inclusion, like a Peanuts movie coming up, hey, that gets covered. And if Peter Robbins had died, I don’t think there’d be any objection to my noting it here. That he’s dying and has enmeshed himself in ugly situations… that’s less obvious. I can see myself giving a brief dry sentence about it, mostly to provide a link to it for those who are interested in that aspect of things.

But even then, I will try to filter things through some knowledge. When many news sources were covering the recent, ultimately unsuccessful auction of some notes and sketches Schulz had sent a former love interest, lots of people pointed me toward it… but the aspects they seemed to think were of interest weren’t news; that chapter of Schulz’s life had been public knowledge for years, and some of the material being auctioned had previously been on public display. So unless there’s real news, or unless I can give some informed impact on a current discussion, I’m likely to ignore it.

But as I said, it’ll be a case by case basis… and if you think I miss the mark in some cases, I hope you’ll forgive me. I’m at least 75% human, and prone to imperfection.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I just got a vaguely Peanuts-related book in the mail, which I’ll need to read and write up. Because that is so much more what this blog is for.

Well, that was a reaction

Yesterday’s post about socialism accusations being aimed at Peanuts and drawing a parallel to today’s attacks on libraries actually didn’t get much response. Even when I shared a version on social media, I got a mere handful of “likes”. But the one email I got was a doozy. I mean, …

AAUGH and the holiday season

The old AAUGHmobile and I were in a collision a couple weeks back, so say “hi” to the new AAUGHmobile. It’s white with black highlights, so it looks a mite like Snoopy! Meanwhile, I’ve got a fractured wrist, making typing a bit hard, so I’m just summarizing my full usual …
