Peanuts book at Wendy’s… or is it?

As the AAUGH Blogger, I find out about new and upcoming Peanuts books through a variety of sources. Sometimes publishers let me know what’s going on, sometimes it’s research finding out what’s in the new catalogs, sometimes a blog reader will tip me off to something new, and sometimes is serendipity.
So it’s Lent, and I stop at Wendy’s for the fish sandwich that they offer during this holiday (I don’t practice Lent, but I do practice eating fish sandwiches), and as I’m walking away with my square of seafood on a bun, I see a sign. Not some sort of omen, merely the sign pushing their current kid’s meal toys. It’s all Pac-Man stuff… and then, in the lower corner is a Snoopy logo, with words telling you to ask for the special board book for kids under 3. “Ah! Peanuts book!” And my brain releases endorphins, and all is right in the world.
So I finish my fish, and I circle back to the counter and ask the clerk “So, the kids’ meal, the toy for kids under 3, it’s a Snoopy book?” And she says “no, it’s Pac-Man.” “Are you sure? Because the sign has a picture of Snoopy.” “We have Pac-Man now. It’s Pac-Man.”
And then, exiting, I saw a different sign for the kid’s meal, and it too has the Snoopy logo by the board book descriptor. So I think there is – or, at the very least, was – a Snoopy board book available at Wendy’s. It may have been merely a copy of one otherwise available, or it may be one made just for Wendy’s. So tomorrow I aim to go to another Wendy’s or two to find out.
(And before I hear back from anyone accusing me of messing with the system – I do indeed have a child under the age of three at this point! It’s perfectly legitimate for me to get the kid’s meal for kids under 3. Of course, I won’t ever let him get his grubby little hands on the Snoopy book, and since he won’t be with me I’ll have to eat most of the food before it goes bad, but I will save the orange slices for him!)
