If you wonder why Apple TV is making a new Peanuts feature film

Animated Peanuts

The idea of Apple TV making a new feature-length Peanuts film caught some people off-guard. Sure, they make Peanuts “specials”, but the last time a feature film was made, it became the lowest grossing film that that studio had released, despite also being the best reviewed.

Today, I looked at the Top Movies listing on Apple TV. #1 was It’s The Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown (which they count as a “movie” as it is neither a series nor a sports event.) #2 was F1, an Academy Award-winning film that Apple had spent over $200 million making. #3 was Snoopy Presents: It’s the Small Things, Charlie Brown, a four year old Peanuts special. Is Peanuts getting a blip from Easter? Certainly. But the fact that Peanuts material is regularly in play on this list put it well in line with what Apple seems willing to spend money on.
