Peanuts shirts worth drawing blood over

fashion
  • The “free Snoopy shirt for donating blood” promotion that the American Red Cross did a while back worked gangbusters… so much so that they’re doing it again, only bigger. This time there are four different shirts with Woodstock, two of them also have Snoopy, and it’s a blind bag item. That’s right, you don’t know what you’re getting, but it’s a Peanuts shirt, so it can’t be bad! Promotion ends Sept 21 (if supplies last), so head over to the Red Cross website and sign up to donate today
  • Captain Math wants me to tell you that if you’re trying to collect all four blind-bagged shirts, while it’s theoretically possible to happen in just four donations, odds are that along the way you’ll get doubles. On average, expect to give blood eight-and-a-third times in order to get all four. And since you’re only allowed to donate blood six times a year, you’re not going to get this done by September 21. So don’t worry about it, give blood, and enjoy the shirt you get!
  • A recent visit to HomeGoods tells me that the Puffer Coat Snoopy continues to be A Thing. I just think of that as a prime example of how much richness there is in the strip, always with new things for society to discover, new ways of looking at it.

Hey Kids! It’s Candy Corn Puffer Jacket Cookie Jar Snoopy!!
  • For 2026, Sanrio is offering a “Peanuts Friends” calendar. 12 months, 12 images… and only one appearance by a human being. Otherwise, it’s all Snoopy and birds. Orderable now through Amazon. All the holidays are listed in Japanese, though… and I suspect it focuses on Japanese holidays.
  • As long as I’m mentioning there’s a number of 2026 Peanuts calendars now available. There’s this 12″ Happiness-Is-themed wall calendar that, yes, does include an image of Puffer Coat Snoopy. There’s this 12″ wall calendar featuring brief Peanuts quotes, but no Puffer Coat. Oh, but this other 12″ wall calendar focused on Snoopy does have the Puffer Coat! Inspirational 7″ mini wall calendar? No Puffer Coat. This non-inspirational 7″ mini wall calendar? The clues are confusing. The video on the Amazon page shows two different images for January 2026; one Puffer Coat, one not. (Before anyone points out that this 16 month calendar has two Januaries, yes it does, but they shouldn’t both start on Thursday.) This Hallmark calendar? Not enough images to know for sure. This desk pad calendar? Yes it does!
  • If it seems early to be getting a 2026 calendar, I understand… but the days are numbered.

Allison, the AAUGH Blog Fashion Editor, presented me with this item, purchased at the local 99 Cents Only store, where literally nothing actually costs 99 cents any more (things marked 99 cents cost $1. I kid you not.) This was marked $1.99. She knew it would somewhat amuse me, somewhat …
