The AAUGH Blogger’s next Peanuts-related book

Nat news

Since the news came out at Beaglefest, I might as well announce it here as well: I’ve helped Judy Sladky with the writing of her memoire. A memoir about what, you ask? Well, for those of you who don’t know who Judy is… you know how you never see Clark Kent and Superman together? Well, much the same is true of Judy and Snoopy. If you see Snoopy skating at Snoopy’s Home Ice in Santa Rosa or on a TV special, if you see Snoopy giving hugs at Comic-Con, if you see Snoopy in the parade in a film like Jingle All the Way, Judy doesn’t seem to be around. (Some theorize that Judy simply doesn’t like Snoopy and avoids showing up where he is, but when I see her she is often wearing a Snoopy jacket, so that’s probably not the case.)

Those of you who know Judy know that she’s a great and enthusiastic storyteller, and may be wondering why I’m aboard. I assure you I’m not a “ghostwriter”, nor is this an “as told to” book. Judy wrote quite readable and enjoyable material, and I just used my skills to fluff it out and smooth it over, making sure that everything is clear for the folks who don’t already know everything about Peanuts, and use my general skills as a text worker.

It’s a good book, if I do say so myself. It’s got stories about NASA, NASCAR, and the New York Stock Exchange, with appearances by soldiers, celebrities, first families, and one boa constrictor. It has a lot of humor, a little danger, and a lot of touching moments. Drawing on Snoopy appearances from the 1970s through today, there is a lot of good tales to tell.

Who is publishing it, and when is it coming out? We have to get an answer to that first question before the second. We’ve got an agent shopping it around now… but if anyone in the reading audience works for a sizable publishing house that might be interested, let me know!

an interview about Peanuts

I got interviewed about Peanuts on the WHI Podcast, which is normally a political podcast… which is why, perhaps, we end up talking about the polarization of the nation, now and in the past, within the context of the popularity of the Peanuts strip. Watch and see why I should …

Peanuts books all a-board!

The mail brought two new Peanuts board books this week, and the web offered up images of another, so I guess that’s the theme for the day. Cheering You On, Charlie Brown looks first at how Charlie Brown has a lot of difficulty in life, but then at how he …

Great Pumpkin Carols are coming

I have noted before that there seems to be a fair bit of lasting affection out there for The Peanuts Book of Pumpkin Carols, a booklet of Halloween-related lyrics for famed tunes that Hallmark put out in the 1960s and redesigned and reissued a few times. It’s clear that Chronicle Books …
