The AAUGH Blog: Now on Bluesky

I have now set up a Bluesky account for The AAUGH Blog — username @aaugh.com — which will automatically post a link to every new blog post here (or at least, every new one with a header image… which I’m taking advantage of here because the people following the account already on Bluesky don’t need to be told that it’s on Bluesky.
I’ve done this for a couple reasons. One is simply that Bluesky is a growing social media site that I enjoy being part of, and I think will make a good place to spread the AAUGH Blog news.
The other is that I’m looking to reduce my presence (both the AAUGH Blog and my personal presence) on Facebook. This is in part because Facebook is just a poor experience in many ways, particularly with its emphasis on showing you want it wants you to see rather than what you want to see…. however, that has been a problem for a while (if an ever-increasing one.) What moved this more into focus was Facebook’s head basically announcing that the problem that he was concerned with fixing was that LGBT people were not being harassed enough on the site. I have trouble with presenting materials that will encourage my LGBT friends to keep putting themselves in that environment.
I won’t be stopping everything there instantly, and am still trying to figure how best to handle aspects of Facebook that are useful for me professionally.) But I do encourage people to check out Bluesky, which is Twitterlike in its format but not in its management.
