Double Love

New releases

Simon Spotlight has dropped two books for the Valentine’s Day Shopping Season, and they’re pretty similar.

Love is Everywhere, Snoopy! is a board book that is supposed to be Charlie Brown explaining love to Snoopy (who is said to have asked, which raises the usual how-does-Snoopy-communicate-to-Charlie-Brown question.) Charlie Brown answers in verse, with full color images of the Peanuts kids to illustrate what he’s saying. The answer blurs forms of love, whether it be the strong friendship with your dog or the really-just-a-crush that Sally has for Linus… anon-romantic/romantic blending which leaves the hearts that flow out of Marcie as she looks at Peppermint Patty open to interpretation, I suppose. The writing is by Tina Gallo, and the art by Scott Jeralds.

Love From Snoopy, also drawn by Jeralds but written by Maggie Testa, has explanations of the power of love, formatted much in the way of the Happiness is a Warm Puppy gift books: a short bit of text on one page facing a picture on the opposing page. It’s a cute gift item, and it is all Snoopy… however, if you’re looking for something like this, I’d still go with the real Schulzness of Love Is Walking Hand in Hand, despite its lack of full-colorness.

Shiny edges

So I got the new board book edition of It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown. And, well, it is what it is, a board book edition of a previously-published adaptation. I’m not sure full episode adaptations are absolutely ripe for board books, simply because they’re too long, too much text, for …

Review catchup

I apologize for the lack of reviews in a while. It’s my own fault… and the fault of that new Hallmark edition of A Charlie Brown Christmas which interacts with a stuffed animal. “That would be a great review to do as a video”, thought I. But videos take time to …
