AAUGH Blog’s Twitter feed to end

The Twitter account with links to each new blog post will soon be closing down. I apologize to the handful of people who are using that to follow the posts here, but doing anything that provides free content for and encourages people to use that service have become untenable.
For those who don’t follow online concerns: Twitter has been purchased by a billionaire who has decided to make his personal brand the brand for the service. In the weeks since, he has made anti-trans statements, engaged in anti-semitic joking, boosted dangerous conspiracy theories, invited back users who had been banned for hate posts and encouragement of violence. Where the dark, vicious edge of things was previously a problemĀ that Twitter had, it has now become itsĀ mission. Even if I didn’t care about humanity in general, as a Jew with family and close friends who cover each letter of LGBTQ, as a pale person whose relatives include Black, Cherokee, and Asian members, these are my people they are coming for, and I sure don’t have to support that with my content or my business.
I have already ceased my personal tweeting, and have been holding out on ending the AAUGH feed there with hopes of transferring that feed to a similar service. The tools to get automatic posting to Facebook have never worked out for me (although I do repost most of this blog’s posts at http://facebook.com/AAUGH ) There are tools to post to Mastodon, which is a service that has its place but hasn’t worked well for me. I’m hoping that someone puts together a quick repost-to-post.news tool (you’ll find my personal account there at https://post.news/natgertler ), or that Hive comes alive again with a similar tool… but even if not, in a few days I’ll be pulling down that Twitter account.
