A Charlie Brown Christmas in its original black and white

New releases

I did a little unboxing of the A Charlie Brown Christmas Coloring Kit, which is the third new print edition of A Charlie Brown Christmas that I’ve covered this year. (Email blog subscribers can see the video here.)

What this video shows, if you pay attention, is:

  1. I really need to clean my cell phone camera lens and get a proper tripod for these efforts.
  2. While this is clearly a new edition, it’s not a new adaptation. Rather, this is an uncolored version of the same Tom Brannon-illustrated adaptation that has been put into various editions repeatedly for years now. To be specific, it uses the recent variant of that adaptation, which does away with Peppermint Patty and Marcie from the story (appropriately, as they were not in the TV special that’s being adapted.)

If you view it as a coloring book, $9.95 is a steep price for 23 small images to color (the box boasts “46 cards”, but of course half of them carry the text) and some stubby pencils. On the other hand, it is a nice physical object to stuff in a stocking.

Peanuts books all a-board!

The mail brought two new Peanuts board books this week, and the web offered up images of another, so I guess that’s the theme for the day. Cheering You On, Charlie Brown looks first at how Charlie Brown has a lot of difficulty in life, but then at how he …

Shiny edges

So I got the new board book edition of It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown. And, well, it is what it is, a board book edition of a previously-published adaptation. I’m not sure full episode adaptations are absolutely ripe for board books, simply because they’re too long, too much text, for …
