The world won’t come to an end in 2014

…because it’s already tomorrow in Australia. As such, we’re looking at having a 2015, and Peanutswise, it’s going to be a big one. The 65th anniversary of the strip, the 50th anniversary of A Charlie Brown Christmas, the spread of the French animated Peanuts shorts to more markets, and likely the biggest thing of all: The Peanuts Movie.

Bookwise, we’ve got a lot of running series that will continue running: The Complete Peanuts, in both its hardcover and paperback incarnations. Peanuts Every Sunday volume 3. More collections of the Peanuts comic book. At least one more of those little square Fantagraphics hardcovers.

Then there’s new stuff. A new line of kids books, and books for English learners. Themed strip collections for the 65th anniversary. Reprints of the first two Peanuts books, Peanuts and More Peanuts. And some bigger stuff looming toward the end of the year – certainly the movie will bring a graphic novel adaptation, and we’ve had words of art books like Chip Kidd’s Only What’s Necessary: Charles M. Schulz and Peanuts and the book of Peanuts interpretations by other artists, Peanuts Off-Model.

But there will definitely be stuff that hasn’t been announced yet. It seems fairly likely that there will be kids books tied to the movie, partial adaptations of the film, just because those things tend to come with animated movies. Perhaps a Making Of book. And I wouldn’t be surprised to see some unlicensed books analyzing Peanuts from different angles.

But if I had something to wish for… well, I’d wish for peace, and plenty, and the alleviation of people’s suffering.

And a new book adaptation of A Charlie Brown Christmas.

book adaptations of A Charlie Brown Christmas
A portrait of A Charlie Brown Christmas. Also, a landscape.

Looks like we’ll be getting a couple more editions of book adaptations of A Charlie Brown Christmas this year. One is a board book version of the 2015 Tina Gallo and Scott Jeralds adaptation that’s already been reworked before, and the other… is also a board book version of that …
