Peanuts gift catalog

There are a few catalogs of Peanuts items in the AAUGH.com reference library – mailed catalogs from Peanuts specialty sources, some book format catalogs of Japanese items, all with tempting things to order. I’ve recently added a catalog of items that I could not actually get, at least not through the catalog.

A catalog with a picture of MetLife representative Snoopy
As you can tell, my scanner has died, and I'm temporarily using images very quickly made with my laptop's built-in camera

This is a catalog full of things that you might want, but they won’t sell them to you, either… unless you happen to be a MetLife representative. It’s full of tchotchkes for MetLife representatives to give away. Some are smaller items for potential customer: key chains, pencils, a tire gauge. Some are larger items that one might donate as a raffle prize or somesuch -golf umbrellas, watches – and some one might just use while acting as a MetLife rep, such as a Snoopy-the-rep lapel pin. A few of the items could be ordered customized, to promote the individual MetLife office or some event they were backing. All have pictures of Snoopy and the MetLife logo or “Get Met. It Pays.”

(Actually, that’s interesting. All of them have Snoopy. A few also have Woodstock. None of them have any of the other characters, but Charlie Brown, Lucy, Schroeder, and even Franklin appear in the design of the eight-page catalog itself.)

Well, I’m off to buy a scanner. Or maybe to try to fix my solar-powered holiday lights. Or maybe to write a press release for The Ferret’s Tale, a new book by Superfolks author Robert Mayer that I’ve published for the Kindle and is (checking Amazon) yes, as of today now available in a print edition as well. (If you’ve sought a serious dramatic work told from the point of view of a ferret, then this is the book you’ve been looking for!) But I still have plenty of time to sign bookplates for people who buy The Peanuts Collection, so if you want one, drop me a line with your address and whether you want it personalized to someone.

Charles M. Schulz: Pinko scum?

As with most of my history finds, I found the column when I was looking for something else, something only related because they both had the term “comic strip.” But there it was… George Boardman, PhD, was telling the world that there was a problem with socialist propaganda on America’s …

Peanuts Storybook Treasury

The Peanuts Storybook Treasury slams 18 of the Simon Spotlight storybooks from 2015 through 2021 into a single hardcover volume. In order to get them all into 304 pages, it cheats just a little bit, skipping over the covers and individual copyright pages, and occasionally combining what had been two …

A set completed and a mystery solved

Twenty years ago when I first published a collection of It’s Only a Game by Charles Schulz and Jim Sasseville, I proudly announced that it was the first reprint collection of the strip ever! But then I saw at auction a little pamphlet that looked like this: and I later found …
