I was checking out my remainder book source, BookCloseouts, and noticed that they had some good deals on books for the impending Halloweeniday:
- The Great Pumpkin Strikes Again, an out-of-print kids storybook for $1.99, half off the cover price.
- Baby Snoopy’s Pumpkin out-of-print board book for $2.99, half off the cover price.
- It’s the Great Pumpkin: The Making Of… book, $5.99 – almost 2/3s off the cover price.
- and hey, if you’re willing to plan several holidays ahead, you can get Baby Woodstock’s Easter Eggs for 69 cents, or about an eighth of its original price.
Plus there’s a Peanuts activity book with paints for under $2, Snoopy’s Guide to the Writing Life for about half off, The Parables of Peanuts by the late Robert L. Short for 60% off,.
Order at east $35 worth of books there, get $5 off (which roughly equates to getting your shipping for free) using the coupon code dealdude and the password bookcloseouts.com or save $10 off a $50 order with dealdude-2 and the same password.
Bookcloseouts carries primarily remainders, copies that are dumped cheaply by publishers when they’ve decided they’ve printed too many. These are mostly marked with a little black stripe or dot on the bottom edge for technical reasons, so they may not make the perfect gift, but they are great for reading or for giving folks who aren’t looking for a reason to turn up their nose at a gift. I tend to shop them for audiobooks; at $5.99, I’m glad to buy a six-disk book and have it ready for the next time I have a long drive… I can’t say that about audiobooks at their usual price. But then, I’m cheap.
By the way, this year’s airing of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown will be on the 27th, the Tuesday before Halloween.
