Easter Beagle, and an All-Stars triple play

I just picked up The Easter Beagle Egg Hunt, the new kids book. It’s a light-scale board book with plastic easter egg shapes that peak through the pages, plus one pop-up. The art adaptation is actually quite nice on this one. Six two-page spreads. Not a deeply meaningful or important book, but not a bad thing to throw into some kid’s easter basket, I reckon.

This one, I actually didn’t order from Amazon, but picked up at  Borders bookstore that’s within walking distance. I don’t know if you’ve been to a Borders lately, but it’s very strange to do so. The chain is in serious financial trouble. Most of the items they carry are carried on a returnable basis, which means that by returning books to the publisher, they free up some money. So there’s fewer books. Now I’m hearing that publishers are being unwilling to send them product on the usual credit terms, and that also means fewer books. For a while, they were doing some creative rearranging that kept the stores from looking hollowed out of material. But now, it’s too much. It’s a very sad effect.

Anyway, speaking of the Easter Beagle, ABC has announced that they will air It’s The Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown on April 7th – and to round out the hour, they will air Charlie Brown’s All-Stars. Which means this is the third AAUGH Blog post in a row to mention Charlie Brown’s All-Stars! Woohoo!

Peanuts books all a-board!

The mail brought two new Peanuts board books this week, and the web offered up images of another, so I guess that’s the theme for the day. Cheering You On, Charlie Brown looks first at how Charlie Brown has a lot of difficulty in life, but then at how he …

Shiny edges

So I got the new board book edition of It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown. And, well, it is what it is, a board book edition of a previously-published adaptation. I’m not sure full episode adaptations are absolutely ripe for board books, simply because they’re too long, too much text, for …
