THE EXPANDED ART OF CHARLES M. SCHULZ
I just took my first look at the new paperback edition of
PEANUTS: THE ART OF CHARLES M. SCHULZ, and was quite
surprised. No, not by the fact that the new cover actually
has a big smiling picture of Charlie Brown on it. The
surprise was THEY’VE ADDED MORE STUFF! Thirty-two pages
of material that wasn’t in the hardcover. Pictures of
early Peanuts products, of the first Peanuts comic book,
storyboards from the very first Peanuts animation (a
Ford ad), all mixed in there with the rest of the stuff.
I thought this book was a steal in hardcover for $29.95.
Now there’s even more of it, and the cover price is a
mere $16.95… but we can beat that. At the moment, we’ve
got it at 30% off — $11.87 for hundreds of full color
pages of great Peanuts stuff. I don’t say this kind of
thing often, but -everyone- reading this newsletter
should have at least some edition of this book. It is
that good.

(And before anyone asks: a quick check shows that they
fixed at least some of the errors minor factual errors
of the previous edition. When I get a chance, I’ll
review more carefully and update my guide to the errors
to reflect the different editions.)

IT SHOULDN’T HAPPEN TO AN AMERICAN DOG…
You may recall from a couple newsletters back when I mentioned
having a British edition of the Hallmark gift book IT SHOULDN’T
HAPPEN TO YOU… LET ALONE A DOG, in which Pig-Pen turned on
Doctor Who on the TV in what was apparently a paste-up for
the British edition.
Well, now I’ve heard from a reader who has the U.S. edition
(there was indeed one), and what is Pig-Pen watching in
that edition? Why, it’s got to be his favorite film — The
Dirty Dozen!

GETTING JAPANESE BOOKS
Last newsletter, I talked about some of the Japanese Peanuts
books I had just received, and asked if anyone wanted to know
how to order them. The answer was, of course, yes. Quite
simply, I ordered them from Amazon.co.jp, the Japanese branch
of Amazon. Their site is in Japanese, of course, but it has
features that let you select to work in English. It won’t
translate everything into English — it’ll translate
some of the command links, but not book titles and the like.
Still, with a little sticktoitiveness you can get through
the ordering process.

When you go to these pages, check the other links on
the page, which will steer you toward other Japanese
Peanuts books.
(And to answer the next question: no, I do not make
any money when you order these books. I had a yen to
set up the same deal with the Japanese branch as I do
with the regular Amazon, but -that- part of the
instructions are only in Japanese!)

Wow! A whole non-trivial newsletter without any reports
on The Complete Peanuts or any new kids books.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to go prepare for
arriving trick-or-treaters. I’m giving out comic books
again this year!
