a box of confusion

Here’s a quiz for you: imagine you, like AAUGH Blog reader Douglas, got a copy of a new boxed set of Peanuts books, and it had this marking on the box….

Box cover text reading "Includes: Snoopy, Snoopy Come Home, It's a Dog's Life, Charlie Brown" in all capitals

Now, first pretend that you (unlike Douglas) don’t know anything about Peanuts books. How many books do you think come in the box? And what are their titles? I’ll give you some time to work on this.

Okay, I bet you let a bit of your Peanuts knowledge sneak in and realized that, despite the dual uses of commas in that descriptor (semicolons exist for a reason, people!), there are three books in the box. But unless you already have this box set, I bet you didn’t guess that the titles included are:

  • Snoopy
  • Snoopy, Come Home (note the comma!) and
  • Sunday’s Fun Day, Charlie Brown

Box set with books "Snoopy", "Snoopy, Come Home" and "Sunday's Fun Day, Charlie Brown"It should be noted that the books included are the books that this box was not only solicited as including, but were even listed one the mocked-up box that was shown with the solicitation!

By the way, you can still order this boxed set. It probably won’t arrive in time for Chanukah or whatever, but if you click through on this ordering link, you can get on with your holiday and non-holiday shopping!

Remember a few months back when I got that manga biography of Schulz and it made me really happy, even thought I couldn’t read it? Well, that may be in for a change, because coming in October is Manga Biographies: Charles M. Schulz, The Creator of Snoopy and Peanuts. I …
