Nothing much, what’s Snoo with you?

New releases

(My apologies to anyone who saw an incomplete version of this post that was accidentally published.)

IMG_1039.JPGYes, I went to Costco today. No, it wasn’t to look to see if the new hardcover collection of all the 1960s daily strips was in yet. Well, not entirely. But it wasn’t. In yet, I mean. Anyway, what did pop out at me was a book named Snoo Takes Flight, which was hidden in amongst some Frozen sound books. This is another from the Play-a-Sound line of books with sound buttons, which we’ve seen a few of in recent years..

Taking off the shrink wrap, I am delighted to find that the “Snoo” in question is actually Snoopy! I thought I recognized that face!

The book has 12 sound buttons, including three with songs and two with dialogue. The story inside has the little heiroglyphics that let you know when to push each button during the reading. The art for the 10-page story is by Tom Brannon, and uses the lightened line and modeling that he generally applies to Peanuts art. There are some interesting decisions in the illustration; while Snoopy’s doghouse is depicted in the traditional manner (with the bottom of the doghouse never shown during his flight, so you cannot tell if the doghouse is actually flying or if it’s just in his imagination), the Red Baron’s Fokker Triplane is shown.

This book is not available from any online source that I can find. Heck, I couldn’t even find Snoo Takes Flight in the publisher’s own catalogue, although I did find a very similar-looking new book, Snoop Takes Fli!

(And by the way, while looking at their catalogue, I saw another new upcoming Peanuts book:

MerryChristmasBox

Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown is a boxed set of a plush Snoopy and a board book. Just to drive us collectors/listmakers crazy, the book has the same title as a different book published by this publisher – but that one was a look-and-find book.)
