Many of us fondly recall the Snoopy Sno-Cone Machine from our youth. The Consumer Product Safety Commission is recalling those of much more recent vintage… and not so fondly. Yes, it turns out due to a manufacturing defect in three production batches of the product that were for sale between September 2012 and this past July, a metal part can fall out of the machine and into the sno-cone, which could potentially make for a rather unpleasant sno-cone experience.

If you bought the machine and it comes in this packaging, don’t worry, you’re safe:

then you have to check the batch number, which you can find on the box (under the UPC bar code is where I found mine) or on the back of the machine itself. The problem batch numbers and instructions on how to obtain a replacement part if you have a bad one can be found on the manufacturer’s website.

AAUGH Blog reader Fred gave me the heads up on this, knowing as he did that I had purchased one of these machines for my daughter’s upcoming birthday. Fortunately for me, despite being in the older packaging, mine was of a newer production run and was not subject to a recall. (And just to be clear, the safety commission notes that they don’t have any reports of anyone actually being injured by this; this is a better-safe-than-sorry recall.)
