My pal Mark Evanier is letting people know that Don Markstein has passed away. I’ve known Don online for decades now. He’s the sort of guy who wanted to know everything about comics and cartoon culture, and to share what he knew. Toward that end, he started the site now known as Toonopedia over a decade ago. We were no longer in the online community where I’d gotten to know him, but were still in touch from time to time, usually when I found some minor correction or nuance which should be added to his site.
I’m not sure why there are some of us who feel the need to chronicle, but I’m glad there was Don, and that he shared handy information about things which may not have been important in the grand scheme of the world, but which were significant to many of us.
