Into the Sky with The Flying Ace – a review

New releases

The eighth of the ten Wendy’s Kids’ Meal books is Into the Sky with the Flying Ace. Throughout this, we see roughly the same image – a mid-range shot of Snoopy the Flying Ace sitting on his doghouse. Five of the pages are what you see here – The Flying Ace sitting with one of the Peanuts crew, with a statement of what foreign destination they are headed off to.

This is an irresponsible book, and should not have been issued. What kind of message does this send to our children? I see a day a couple decades down the road when the headlines will be filled with news of the tragic deaths of hundreds of young men and women, drowned when they make the mistake of attempting a transatlantic flight on a Sopwith Camel, a plane whose fuel capacity gives it a flight range of little over 300 miles.

This is the current kids-under-3 toy with their Kids Meal, but if you want to get it, be sure you ask careful and check what you get. They tend to have a pile of these things and just grab whatever’s handiest, which may be last months or even from the month before.

Review: Where’s Snoopy?

The thing it understand about the new hardcover Where’s Snoopy: A Search-and-Find Book by Natalie Shaw and Scott Jeralds is that this isn’t really a puzzle book a la Where’s Waldo? or some of those books of richly detailed photographs where it really takes careful poring over to locate the missing …
