Peanuts at Comic-Con 2011

We’re just days away from the start of the annual madness that is the San Diego Comic-Con. This year, the only Peanuts-focused panel is Sunday’s “How to Draw Snoopy and his Friends”, where some of the folks who worked on Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown (both the animated version and its graphic novel adaptation) will show you how to draw Snoopy and those they deem to be his friends (although really, Snoopy seems to be generally aloof about the whole human crew). Andy Beall, Vicki Scott, and Bob Scott provide the lesson.

However, those more interested in the purchasing experience (or even swagdom) will find that once again, Peanuts has its own booth with convention exclusives. They’ll have a different character pin free each day; my experience is that these run out fast. The fancy item for purchase will be a tin lunchbox, only 600 produced. There will be a Linus-reading-comics lanyard for $4 (or all three colors for $10),and  a men’s t-shirt with Woodstock on the moon and a women’s t with Lucy failing to understand Charlie Brown for $22 each. Pictures of the lunchbox and shirt images at the bottom of the post (i.e., you may have to click “More”.)

Now some bad news: if you’re suddenly inspired to go to Comic-Con for this stuff, sorry, all tickets have been sold out for months now.

Also, if you have the thought “hey, the AAUGH Blogger is my friend! Let’s ask him to pick something up for me!” – well, while I will be going to the con, I’ll only be there for one day this year (a first for me; for decades, I’ve been doing the whole thing), and it will be late in the run anyway, so many things will be sold out. As such, I’m going to skip doing pick-ups for anyone this year. But thanks for your friendship!

Drawing Peanuts

Matt dropped me a line to show me this video that he had made, digging through every documentary source the he could find to clip footage of Charles Schulz drawing, including Schulz’s own commentary. It does get a bit mesmerizing. I kinda prefer that there was more strip work than …
