Gilded Age Peanuts

There are many products generated as Peanuts “collectibles”. There have even been some special editions of books that would qualify, such as those leatherbound Easton Press editions. Still, I think the upcoming board book edition of It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown is pushing the line a bit. The publisher (Little Simon) is promoting the fact that the first printing, and only the first printing, will have “gilded edges”.
Other than that, this is one of those “Super Chubby” books with the padded covers, making them easier on the hands of little kids who just want to stick a gilded-edged book into their mouth.
The adaptation, or at least the art is not new… it’s the Vicki Scott art that we first saw back in 2016… in a version about which I pointed out that the letters on the cover were metallic even though the picture on Amazon did not show that aspect. So it seems that the gild is a thing on this book historically.
In fact, let’s take a look at that old cover…
Notice how the Charlie Brown figure has been flipped to a mirror image in the new version. That’s actually something that licensors are specifically told not to do when working with Schulz art. But I suppose it’s less a concern when you’re not messing with The Master whose specific drawing quirks define Peanuts, and are just dealing with someone who does quite a nice job drawing based on his work.
This new edition is available for pre-order, and if you want to make it likely that you get those gilded edges, I suppose it’s best that your order now.
As long as I’m posting this, I guess I should point out the availability of this book walk-through of that new Snoopy game. This is an unauthorized book (so putting Snoopy on the cover may not have been a good idea) from an author that puts out a walk-through book about every two days.
The German edition has a similar but different cover.
Notice how Snoopy appears to be leaning on, well, his middle leg. Oh artificial intelligence, is there nothing that you can’t do poorly??
