Peanuts will indeed be a part of Comic-Con International: San Diego (yes, that’s its official name) once again this year. There will even be a pop-up shop outside of the Convention Center again, which means that locals can get access to special merch without getting the hard-to-get Comic Con entry badge.
One thing that will be going on inside the convention is the launch of some new product. Games manufacturer Cryptozoic will be launching a new game and a new collector card set. The game, The Doctor is In, gives players a chance to respond to Charlie Brown’s psychiatric questions with a choice of panels from the strip. The card set, Peanuts Playpaks, includes foil cards, standees, even temporary tattoo cards. There will be some exclusive specials for both items at the convention, but general market versions should soon be available.
There are more Peanuts product announcements to come, of course.
I’m planning to only be at the convention on Friday, when I’ll give a talk on publishing books of comics using Amazon’s print-on-demand system. Specific time and room to be announced. (But if you want something more Peanuts-y, I hope you’re coming to Beaglefest, where I’ll be showing Peanuts filmstrips from the Charlie Brown Career Education set on Thursday, July 30.)
