Snoopy by Peanuts!

There’s an anthology book of comics coming out later this month with an odd credit I don’t think I’ve seen before. I’m used to seeing “Peanuts by Schulz” put on things where Charles Schulz didn’t do the final work (although as it’s all inspired by and based upon his work, the credit is not illegitimate.) According to the look-inside-the-book feature on its Amazon listing, Comics Squad #2: Lunch! has a story about Snoopy that’s “by Peanuts”!

In the back of the book, they reveal that this story was written and drawn by Vicki Scott, inked  by Paige Braddock, and lettered and colored by Donna Almendrala, all folks at Creative Associates whose work you’ll have seen in the Kaboom! Peanuts comic book… although this story does not appear to be a reprint from there. The volume also has a new Babymouse story, new tales from the inestimable Jason Shiga (his choose-your-own-path graphic novel Meanwhile was more work than fun for me, but I really enjoyed some of his earlier work, such as Bookhunter), Jeffrey Brown (best known for his fun series of Star Wars kids books), El Deafo‘s Cece Bell, and other respectable folks. I suspect that when my copy comes, my daughter will want to yank it out of my hands.

(If you try to look for this story on the “look inside” feature of the Amazon listing, it shows you the text but none of the pictures for the Snoopy story. It’s just words floating out in space!)

Not all strip reprints are books

Coming next April is Happiness is a Postcard, a boxed set of fifty “unique” (by which they mean there are no repeats in the box) postcards. And some of them, going by the promo image, are reprints of Sunday strips. So that doesn’t count as a “book” for my list of …
