Best Friends – the ULTIMATE Peanuts book

Well, it’s the ultimate Peanuts book in the Wendy’s Kids’ Meal line, anyway. Ten books over the course of a year, and it’s all over. And no one will miss these more than your own AAUGH Blogger; I was getting three good posts out of each volume!
Best Friends feature five two-page spreads, each of which shows you an example of what best friends do for one another. Sometimes, the pair of friends is Snoopy & Woodstock. Other times, the pair is Snoopy and Charlie Brown… and it’s clearly not just a matter of Charlie Brown feeling that Snoopy is his best friend, it’s reciprocated. If anything, it’s the friendship in the other direction which is in doubt; the final spread is about how best friends are always glad to see you, and it shows Snoopy dancing in for a hug, and the round-headed kid seeming somewhat put off by it.
So this leaves the question: who is Snoopy’s best friend? Is he fickle, changing his mind all the time? Or is there a best friending equivalent of bigamy? And are Woodstock and Charlie Brown aware of the position they’re in, or is Snoopy best friending multiple people behind each other’s back? And are these relationships stable? I mean, it’s natural for dogs to eat birds. Human beings also eat birds. Then again, if you just watched A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving all the way to the end rather than flipping channels when Happiness is a Warm Blanket came on, you know that even Woodstock will eat a bird in the right situation, so maybe they’re all friends for what they have in common.
