Yes, it’s been a fair while since the last newsletter,
\nbut I have been a busy boy. A lot of that effort has been
\nbeing put into IT’S ONLY A GAME, the collection of
\nSchulz’s never-before-in-a-book series of sports cartoons.
\nNow this is a book that I can’t review impartially — I’m
\nthe publisher on it, so I have a strong vested interest.
\nBut I think that Schulz collabortor Jim Sasseville, editor
\nDerrick Bang, and I have put together a volume here that
\nany real Schulz fan will want to read. So I’ve been putting
\ntogether review copies, issuing press releases, doing
\nwhatever it takes to get the word out.<\/p>\n

\nWHO’S ON FIRST, CHARLIE BROWN?<\/p>\n
The book WHO’S ON FIRST, CHARLIE BROWN is a nice, thick
\nbook made up solely of baseball strips. It’s not the
\nfirst baseball themed collection — there are a number of
\nthem in Peanuts book history, such as Sandlot Peanuts,
\nBig League Peanuts, and Insights From The Outfield.
\nHowever, the selection here is good and generous (although
\nnot, as some might have wanted, a complete collection of
\nevery baseball strip Schulz ever did.) At 272 pages, this
\nis a big book, much the same format as Ballantine’s recent
\nby-the-year strip collections, but signficiantly thicker
\n(and not that much harder on the wallet.)<\/p>\n
The strips are all printed in black and white. There is
\nsome color printing used, but it’s used for page decoration,
\nwhich is frankly sometimes distracting, but only minorly.
\nThe strips are taken from 48 different years, making it
\na fairly broad overview.<\/p>\n
With an intro by Cal Ripkin Jr. (that a well-known baseball
\nplayer for those of you who don’t follow the American
\nsports scene), this is a nice package which would make a
\ngood gift for folks who like both baseball and Peanuts.
