{"id":863,"date":"2009-11-30T08:46:09","date_gmt":"2009-11-30T15:46:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/aaugh.com\/wordpress\/?p=863"},"modified":"2009-11-30T08:46:09","modified_gmt":"2009-11-30T15:46:09","slug":"charlie-brown-indicates-one-twice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aaugh.com\/wordpress\/2009\/11\/charlie-brown-indicates-one-twice\/","title":{"rendered":"Charlie Brown indicates &#8220;one&#8221;, twice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I see a lot of Peanuts book covers, but it wasn&#8217;t until I was looking over my own recent blog posts that I noticed something about <a href=\"http:\/\/aaugh.com\/to.htm?0762438592\"><strong>Everything I Need To Know I Learned From Peanuts <\/strong><\/a>(coming out next March) and <a href=\"http:\/\/aaugh.com\/to.htm?1604734477\"><strong>My Life with Charlie Brown<\/strong><\/a> (coming out the month after that):<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 493px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/AAUGH.com\/images\/twocovers.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Two covers, one Charlie Brown\" src=\"http:\/\/AAUGH.com\/images\/twocovers.jpg\" alt=\"Which of these things is not like the other...\" width=\"493\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Which of these things is not like the other?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Now let me explain that Peanuts licensees are given access to a huge body of &#8220;clip art&#8221;, existing individual Peanuts images, and if they wish to go beyond that there are well over 50,000 existing Peanuts comic strip panels to choose from&#8230; and yet these two designers (we can presume it was two different designers, it is two different publishers), working on two adjacent-in-release Peanuts books, happened to choose the same image. Colored differently, of course, but same picture.<\/p>\n<p>I hope one of these publishers reconsiders their design before the books&#8217; release (we have seen that happen before). Yes, one generally wants a Peanuts book cover to have some sense of familiarity, invoking the beloved strip&#8230; but you don&#8217;t want something so familiar that you think you already bought that book last month!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\nI&#8217;ll have the answer on our Sniffy the Pup question (and announce a winner for the contest) tomorrow. Meantime, if you&#8217;re doing some shopping and want to be able to get a lot of books cheap, let me steer you toward <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bookcloseouts.com\/default.asp?N=0&amp;rid=aaugh\">BookCloseOuts<\/a>. They sell remaindered books (excess copies the publisher couldn&#8217;t sell, generally with a little remainder mark on the bottom edge of the pages) for usually a fraction of the original cover price&#8230; and for the next couple days they&#8217;re offering half off their already-discounted price on fiction books and free shipping. There are bargains to be had, for yourself and for gifts!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bookcloseouts.com\/default.asp?N=0&amp;rid=aaugh\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bookcloseouts.com\/web_images\/Newsletter\/blackFriday_banner.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"BookCloseouts.com big sale\" \/><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">NOTE: I did not design the graphic.
