It looks like between me and my elves, we got some
\nwires crossed, and gave some bad information about
\nwhat seemed to be a vital upcoming book.<\/p>\n
IT’S BACK TO SCHOOL, CHARLIE BROWN is not the
\nlong-awaited collection of the 1995 strips, the
\nlast year not covered by the sequential collections.
\nThat book has not yet been announced. Folks waiting
\nto fill out that year in their collection will have
\nto wait a while longer.<\/p>\n
I apologize to anyone who made plans or placed orders
\nbased on that information. If you preordered the book,
\nyou can go to Amazon.com, sign in, and have that book
\nstruck for your upcoming shipments.

\nWHAT “IT’S BACK TO SCHOOL” IS<\/p>\n
This paperback is a collection of school and
\neducation-themed strips, supposedly taken from
\nacross the full run of the strip. While this isn’t
\nthe first strip collection with such a theme (there’s
\nbeen CLASSROOM PEANUTS, PEANUTS IN SCHOOL, YOU’RE IN
\nSCHOOL NOW CHARLIE BROWN, and SALLY: SCHOOL IS MY
\nWORLD), it should be noted that this is a new
\ncollection and not just a reprint of one of those
\nearlier collections.<\/p>\n
If you saw A PEANUTS VALENTINE, you know that
\nBallantine can do nice themed collections (and
\nyou can be forgiven for doubting it after the
\nearlier A PEANUTS CHRISTMAS). I haven’t seen a
\npreview copy of this yet, but I have high hopes.<\/p>\n
School-themed Peanuts books tend to be interesting,
\nin that they generally have an odd balance of the
\ncharacters. Unless most Peanuts collections, they
\ntend to have very little Snoopy and only a little
\nLucy, and have far more Sally and Peppermint Patty
\nthan you’ll see elsewhere, because school was the
\nkey place for those characters. It’s been a while
\nsince the last school-themed collection; I expect
\nthis one will have a nice selection of Rerun strips
\nas well.<\/p>\n

\nA CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS AGAIN!<\/p>\n
It’s happening again. Yet another publisher has announced
\na book entitled A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS! This time, it’s
\nRunning Press, announcing a small $4.95 hardcover edition
\nas part of their Miniature Editions line of pocket-sized
\ngift books. This puts this publisher in the same line
\nas World, Signet, Random House, Golden, Little Simon, and
\nbook-and-record publishers in putting out a book with this
\ntitle. Presumably, it’s an adaptation of the classic
\nTV special, but whether they’ll be reformatting and
\nreprinting one of the existing adaptations or if it will
\nbe an all-new book is information I don’t yet have. Or
\nmaybe it will reprint material from A CHARLIE BROWN
\nCHRISTMAS: THE MAKING OF A TRADITION. Or maybe it’s
\nsomething entirely new.<\/p>\n
My elves are looking into it. And this time, if they
\ngive me bad information, I’m cutting off their donut
\nsupply. BAD ELVES DON’T DESERVE DONUTS!<\/p>\n
This new Christmas comes in October. Don’t preorder it
\nyet; there’ll be a surcharge if you do.
