So I got the new board book edition of\u00a0It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown<\/strong><\/a>. And, well, it is what it is, a board book edition of a previously-published adaptation<\/a>. I’m not sure full episode adaptations are absolutely ripe for board books, simply because they’re too long, too much text, for the crowd that a board book edition is made for. But really, I’m not that focused on the innards of the book at the moment. No, it’s its edges that get my attention. This is the first printing of the new book, and as we’d been promised for that one printing, the pages have gilded edges.<\/p>\n

This generates three reactions from me:<\/p>\n

  1. “Ooooh, shiny!”<\/li>\n
  2. “Isn’t that unduly high-falutin’? Gilded edges are usually used for bibles, classic literature, and people who want their bookshelves of unread books to look expensive.”<\/li>\n
  3. “Is that dangerous? Board books are for kids who stick books in their mouths. It looks like they’re sticking something with sharp metal in their mouths… and even if that’s not true, did they test if this stuff might get sucked off and swallowed? Would that have any bad effects beyond pyrrhic poop?”<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    If you would like to be able to prove forever that you ordered the first printing of a board book condensation of a print adaptation of a TV special based on the comic strip Peanuts by Charles M.
