I hope all of my U.S. readers caught last night’s
\nairing of A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS, with the new
\nanimated CHARLIE BROWN’S CHRISTMAS TALES after it.
\nThe new cartoons were great. They adapted the
\nstrips well. The material was funny, and most
\nof the voices were good (although I found Sally’s
\nvoice a bit off.) It was great to see both Rerun
\nand “Lydia”, who were both well-used in the new
\nshorts. This may be the best new Peanuts
\nanimation in a long while.<\/p>\n
If you missed the show, don’t worry. ABC is
\nrebroadcasting it on Friday. Check your local

\nNEW COMICS HISTORY BOOK<\/p>\n
Brian Walker, the former director of the International
\nMuseum of Cartoon Art, has a new big thick hardcover
\nhistory of comic strips out. THE COMICS: SINCE 1945

\nthe cover, along with Pogo and Beetle Bailey. A hefty

\nand of LOSE THE BLANKET, LINUS. I also took the
\nlittle mini gift books OH FRIEND OF FRIENDS and
\nMY SWEET BABOO off the list, not because they
\nshipped but because they didn’t. These books
\nhad been rescheduled and missed that date, which
\nhas historically meant that a book is not coming
\nout at all.

\nODD PEANUTS BOOK: SNOOPY SPECIAL DEEL<\/p>\n
SNOOPY SPECIAL DEEL 2 is a book that I bought from
\nan online auction, only to discover that the
\nauctioneer was a subscriber to this newsletter.
\nThis book from the Netherlands collects three
\nprevious Snoopy “Deels” into one extra-thick (or,
\nas the cover says, “extra dik”) book. And when I say
\nit collects three books, I don’t mean it reprints them.
\nI mean they actually took three already-printed
\nsoftcover books, covers and all, and wrapped another
\ncover around them to make this book. This reprints
\nSNOOPY DEEL 2: SLAAT WEER TOE, DEEL 3: EEN VRIENDJE
\nHET LEVEN, and DEEL 4:STELT ZIJN EISEN, which makes
\nme wonder just what was in SNOOPY SPECIAL DEEL 1.
\nIt couldn’t just have contained non-special DEEL 1!<\/p>\n
The individual books each reprint 28 Sunday strips
\nin full color. DEEL 4 has all 1976 strips; the
\nothers are unmarked.
