THE FINAL NEW SEQUENTIAL PEANUTS REPRINT!<\/p>\n
July 2003 will see the publication of IT’S BACK TO SCHOOL,
\nCHARLIE BROWN. We don’t have definite confirmation, but
\nto all appearances this looks like the collection of
\nstrips from 1995. This is the last year of Ballantine’s
\nreverse-order printings of the final 5 years of the
\nstrip, and the only period not covered by a
\nroughly-sequential strip reprint book. <\/p>\n
That’s not to say that this is the last sequential Peanuts
\nstrip reprint ever. There are plenty of years worth of
\nmaterial that are not currently in print in the U.S., some
\nof which have been out of print for well more than a decade.
\nThe time is ripe for much of that material to be re-collected
\nand presented in a consistant format. 1995 is just the
\nlast full period hole in the collections for those of us
\nwho have hunted down all the old books.

\nREVIEW: A CB CHRISTMAS GIFT EDITION<\/p>\n
The hardcover gift version of the kids adaptation of A
\nCHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS has basically the same adaptation
\nas last year’s paperback version. The only changes to
\nthe content are that the cover image and one page of the
\ninterior story have been redrawn. The changes are in
\nthe packaging. In edition to the more durable hardcover
\npackaging, both the dust jacket and the cover itself are
\nembossed. In a plastic envelope on the inside back cover
\nof the book is a CD with four music tracks from the
\nspecial’s soundtrack: Christmas Is Coming, Skating, Linus
\nAnd Lucy, and Christmas Time Is Here. The packaging and
\nCD does make this a better version to buy someone as a gift,
\nbut if you’re just a book collector who already owns the
\npaperback, the small amount of changed story content probably
\nwon’t make this a must-buy.<\/p>\n

\nBUY SOME CLOTHES, GET A DEAL<\/p>\n
As most of you realize, the AAUGH.com shop acts as a Peanuts
\nfans’ catalog for Amazon. Well, Amazon just launched their
\n“apparel” store (I always just call it “clothes”), and in
\norder to get people used to shopping there, they are offering
\na great deal: order $50 worth of apparel (or clothes, if you
\nwish) and a few weeks later they’ll send you a coupon for
\n$30 off of your next non-apparel (and non-clothes) Amazon
\npurchase. And then you can come back to AAUGH.com, buy some
\nPeanuts stuff, or click through and by other Amazon stuff.
\nSo if you’re going to be buying books, DVDs, or stuff
\nlike that anyway, this is like getting $50 worth of clothes
\nfor $20.<\/p>\n

\nOTHER PEANUTS CHRISTMAS PROBLEMS<\/p>\n
In the last newsletter, I pointed out some of the
\ndisappointing things about the worthwhile-but-lackluster
\nbook A PEANUTS CHRISTMAS. I was soon receiving email
\nabout those shortcomings and others as well. I
\nmissed a strip duplication; the December 17, 1963
\nstrip on page 80 is repeated on page 84. Also, the
\ndust jacket says “Discover if snow has any effect
\non Pig Pen’s ‘aura'”, but that strip is not in this
\ncollection. Pig-Pen appears in one panel on page 12,
\nand throughout a whole Sunday strip on page 13 (hard
\nto recognize, because he’s clean!), and that’s it
\nfor the entire book.<\/p>\n

\nBIRTHDAY GIFT FROM THE SCHULZ MUSEUM<\/p>\n
This coming November 26th would have been Charles Schulz’s
\n80th birthday. To celebrate this, the Schulz Museum in
\nSanta Rosa, California will not only be open on that day
\n(depsite it being a Tuesday, when the museum is normally
\nclosed), but admissions will be half price and everything
\nin the museum gift shop will be discounted.<\/p>\n
