PEANUTS DVDS A-COMIN’!<\/p>\n
Peanuts video expert Scott McGuire has spread the word that
\nJanuary will bring us the next Peanuts DVD, this one with
\nthree specials on it rather than the usual two. You’ll
\nget “Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown” (the 1975 special, not
\nto be confused with the more recent “A Charlie Brown
\nValentine”), “You’re In Love, Charlie Brown”, and “It’s Your
\nFirst Kiss, Charlie Brown”. Then in March comes another
\nDVD, this one featuring “It’s The Easter Beagle, Charlie
\nBrown”. These aren’t available for preorder yet. I’ll let
\nyou know when they can be gotten.<\/p>\n

I’m finally able to include some of the new Peanuts

\nlooking set of action figures, although I hear tell
\nthat getting them to stand correctly away on a flat
\nsurface (instead of on the dioramas they come with)
\nis sometimes a little tricky. At this point, the
\nthree sets you can order here are all part of the
\nGreat Pumpkin set, so the kids come with their

I’ve managed to find out more about SNOOPY’S FEELINGS and
\nWOODSTOCK IN ACTION, the two upcoming board books meant
\nfor your 1-4 year old. These are cut-shape board books rather
\nthan square, and each will have the characters face on
\nthe front in 3-D in soft vinyl.<\/p>\n
They won’t be out until the spring, but if you want to
\norder them know to make sure that you don’t forget, do so!

For those of you who collected the SNOOPY STARS series of
\nBritish books and had trouble finding the last one (and
\nthose last few Stars are hard to find in the UK and nigh
\nimpossible in the US), good news: The SNOOPY FEATURES
\nseries which reprints these books is finally reprinting
\nthe final book in the series, along with three other
\nbooks. This new set of four will ship in February, but
\nyou can preorder now. The links I’m providing go to
\nAmazon.co.uk, so be prepared for the shipping cost
\n(although you might as well order the whole bunch at
\nonce, since shipping additional books costs much less

Now here’s something that may give us “collect ’em all!”
\ntypes a pause: Ravette is reprinting these books 4
\nat a time. However, there were 21 books in the original
\nseries. Assuming I’m right about …Winter Wonder Dog
\nbeing …Terror of the Ice, this latest batch will
\nleave unreprinted numbers 9 (Snoopy Stars as The Branch
\nManager), 14 (…in The Pursuit of Pleasure), 15 (…as
\nThe Weatherman), 18 (…in Brotherly Love), and 20 (…as
\nThe Holidaymaker). Will they reprint all five? Or will
\nthey just do another batch of four, and leave one
\npainfully unreprinted? Let us see what the future brings!

\nBOOK REVIEW: A CB THANKSGIVING<\/p>\n
The new book adaptation of A CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING
\nis out. Like ther other books in this series, it takes
\nvisual humor and tries to describe them in prose,
\nalways a dicey proposition. (Presumably, they do this
\nbecause reading prose is deemed “educational” while
\nfollowing a story from pictures isn’t. So perhaps it
\nserves the child, but it doesn’t serve the story.)<\/p>\n
And yet, the story survives, to some degree. The artistic
\nadaptation on this one is by Tom Brannon, who is also
\nhandling the above-mentioned board books. The images
\nare clear nd communicative but generally bland and stiff.<\/p>\n

\nwriting my next book and reviewing the new TV season (which

In case anyone’s curious: my asking if any of you had
\nYOU’RE IN SCHOOL NOW, CHARLIE BROWN received only one
\n“yes” response out of the hundreds of Peanuts book fans
\nwho get this newsletter. I think we can count that one
\nas “rare”.<\/p>\n
