{"id":4254,"date":"2016-04-26T09:46:29","date_gmt":"2016-04-26T16:46:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/aaugh.com\/wordpress\/?p=4254"},"modified":"2016-04-26T09:46:29","modified_gmt":"2016-04-26T16:46:29","slug":"complete-peanuts-25","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aaugh.com\/wordpress\/2016\/04\/complete-peanuts-25\/","title":{"rendered":"Complete Peanuts 25"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So I have, in my hot&#8217;n&#8217;handsome li&#8217;l hands, a copy of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/1606999133\/ref=nosim\/aaugh-20\/\"><strong>The Complete Peanuts\u00a0<\/strong>volume 25<\/a>, collecting the final year-and-a-little of the newspaper strip, which is a good thing to have but not exactly hard to have come by before. But this is filled out with two other items of note: a foreword by President of the United States Barack Obama &#8211; just a basic one-page statement of I like Peanuts and everybody like Peanuts and Peanuts holds meaning, that&#8217;s the kind of thing one gets from a sitting president, but still, hey, sitting president! &#8211; and the complete run of &#8220;Li&#8217;l Folks&#8221;, the series of single panel kid-oriented gags that Schulz did for local papers in the day before &#8220;Peanuts&#8221;. Those haven&#8217;t been available before in a generally distributed book (although there is <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.schulzmuseum.org\/SelectSKU.aspx?skuid=1000280\">a collection available from the Schulz Museum<\/a>, which has the added bonus of commentary by Derrick Bang). The\u00a0<em>Complete Peanuts<\/em> format was well designed for running the daily and Sunday Peanuts strips that the books have consisted of up until this point, but it&#8217;s a horribly horizontal format for a the portrait-oriented &#8220;Li&#8217;l Folks&#8221; and so Fantagraphics has done this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/aaugh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_0137-e1461688247240.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4255\" src=\"http:\/\/aaugh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_0137-e1461688247240-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Sideways Complete Peanuts\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aaugh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_0137-e1461688247240-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/aaugh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/IMG_0137-e1461688247240-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As myself a publisher of a book where the binding is at the top, I approve! And this may well be what ends up happening to some of the material that&#8217;s going to end up in\u00a0<em>Complete Peanuts\u00a0<\/em>26, such as a the comic book stories.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of\u00a0<em>Complete Peanuts<\/em> 26, I suppose I should caveat this coverage\/review of 25 by saying that I have been paid for my work on\u00a0that volume, and thus you should read my comments here with the awareness that I may have a conflict of interest. But then, my reviews of previous volumes should reflect that I feel that of course you should want all the\u00a0<em>Complete Peanuts\u00a0<\/em>volumes, because, hey, it&#8217;s the complete &#8220;Peanuts&#8221;!<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/1606999133\/ref=nosim\/aaugh-20\/\"> Go order it now (you still can get some good pre-shipping savings!)<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So I have, in my hot&#8217;n&#8217;handsome li&#8217;l hands, a copy of\u00a0The Complete Peanuts\u00a0volume 25, collecting the final year-and-a-little of the newspaper strip, which is a good thing to have but not exactly hard to have come by before.
