Kaboom Peanuts: up for an award and down for the count

A couple big pieces of news regarding the Peanuts projects that have been part of the Kaboom! line.

  • Peanuts: A Tribute to Charles M. Schulz, their collection of Peanuts stories, tributes, and parodies, is nominated for an Eisner Award (the “Oscar of comics”) for best anthology. (It’s not the only Peanuts book up for an award, as Only What’s Necessary: Charles M. Schulz and the Art of Peanuts got two nominations, one for best comics-related book and one for best publication design. And before anyone asks, no, my book The Snoopy Treasures was not nominated; to the best of my knowledge, it wasn’t even submitted for consideration.)
  • And that’s the end of things. As AAUGH Blog reader Debbie Anne pointed out, they’ve announced July’s Peanuts: Friends Forever 2016 Special as the last book in their Peanuts line. I didn’t know this was coming (I’m long since out of the loop at Kaboom), but I cannot say I’m surprised, the sales figures for the print issues weren’t great. Still, with the 39 issues and four graphic novels they are now citing, that makes a huge edition to the amount of Peanuts comic book stories that have been produced, and which may be recycled for years to come.

What’s in the Comic-Con comic

I’ve got a report from the floor on that Beagle Scouts’ Life comic book being sold at the Peanuts booth at the San Diego Comic-Con. Apparently, the comic material in there is all strip reprints, with some newly-recolored Sundays and some dailies. In addition, there’s a maze, a poster, and …

A new comic at Comic-Con

For some reason, the usual announcement of what would be for sale at the Peanuts booth this year just hasn’t shown up. Then cartoonist maze-maker Joe Wos dropped this image on social media: Beagle Scouts’ Life (the name is a play on the Boy Scouts of America magazine, which used …
