December 2: Fröhliche Weihnachten

The second reveal on the advent calendar is Fröhliche Weihnachten, It may look like a violation of the no-adaptions-of-A-Charlie-Brown-Christmas rule, but it’s not. It’s a strip reprint. And boy, isn’t that cover pretty! The sky is shiny, shiny gold. It could only be more Christmassy if the cover also had the colors of frankincense and myrrh. (Or maybe it does. What color is myrrh, anyway?) The only thing that holds this book back from being higher on the list is the decision to print it all in German. I mean, really, who speaks German? (Well, I suppose the Germans do, but besides them, I mean.) (Oh, okay, also the Austrians.) (Oh, and many of the Swiss, and the Lichtensteiners, or is it Lichtensteinians? Doesn’t matter, they’ll just be assimilated into the LuxemBorg anyway.) Anyway, it’s a pretty book, even to a man in a silly mood.

It’s a strip collection, collecting Christmas-themed strips. Now, that would describe a lot of the books on this list, but …
