Schulz calendar shipping

Now shipping is a Charles Schulz desktop calendar – notice I’m saying Schulz, not Peanuts, because it’s not Peanuts. In fact, this maybe the first calendar made up of non-Peanuts Schulz material. Instead, this is a mixture of material from Schulz’s work for Warner Press (the stuff that’s collecting in Schulz’s Youth) and his work with Jim Sasseville on “It’s Only a Game” (collected in, well, It’s Only A Game.)

And so no one thinks I’m deceiving anyone by pointing this project out: yes, I’m involved in this calendar on a business level, as the publisher of Schulz’s Youth and It’s Only a Game. I didn’t publish this calendar, but I did arrange the license for the cartoons and provide the graphic files. So I’ve known about this calendar for a while before it was publicly announced.

Which brings me to my next point: generally, I try to let you know news about upcoming Peanuts books as soon as I get the information. More and more, however, I fnd myself with information about projects that I cannot share – either I’ve explicitly agreed to keep a secret, or I’m involved on the business end and it’s implicit that it’s up to the publisher to decide when to announce a project. I just thought that I should announce that; while I’ve got no ethical problems with keeping information from the AAUGH Blog readers, I do have a problem with hiding the fact that I’m hiding facts. Thus, this message.

(But yes, there’s interesting stuff afoot — at least I think it’s interesting.)

Snoopy’s Book Café

Peanuts collector Lisa, who had been showing all her finds from a recent trip to Japan, started showing off one of the Re-Ment sets of little kits that combine to make a diorama. They do lovely work, but Peanuts statuary is not what I collect, and besides, these are Japanese …
