CHARLIE BROWN GETS HIS VALENTINE LATE

Last year’s popular new Peanuts special, A
CHARLIE BROWN VALENTINE, is getting aired
again this year in the U.S. on ABC. When?
Saturday February 15th, the day after Valentine’s
Day.

Remember, this one isn’t out on home video yet,
so you may want to tape it.

MUSEUM BOOK DELAYED

A few newsletters back I talked about the book
that the Schulz Museum was planning, a catalog
of the Schulz tribute strips that they have
been displaying in three exhibitions (the second
of which is now on display). At the time, I said
that the book was scheduled for release in
February. Unfortunately, the museum is now
learning the realities of putting a book together,
particularly one which has the complexities that
this one does in terms of rights and content.
They now hope to have it out sometime next month,
but don’t schedule a trip just to pick up the book.

ANOTHER MUSEUM BOOK AVAILABLE

But if you’re going to the museum anyway, it
doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to expand
your book collection anyway, particularly if
you like coloring books. The museum gift shop
(-not- the Snoopy Gift Shop a half block away)
has the Charles M. Schulz Museum Activity &
Coloring Book, a short coloring book packaged
with a quartet of crayons.

IT’S THE LITTLE PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN

Last newsletter, I mentioned that the book
adaptation of BE MY VALENTINE, CHARLIE BROWN
that comes with the PEANUTS VALENTINE CRAFT
KIT was smaller than all the other animated
adaptations in this series.

Well, I was mostly right (which is the
ego-protecting way of admitting I was wrong.)
Oh, it is indeed smaller than any of the books
in this series that I’d seen before, but it
is the exact same size of another book I just
picked up, a miniature edition of the
adaptation of IT’S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE
BROWN. This edition was given away by the Cub
Foods store chain (113 stores in the central
portion of the U.S.), apparently with purchases
of Pepsi and Frito-Lay chips. And the inside
back cover has recipes for Lucy’s Pumpkin
Patch Cookies, Woodstock’s Pumpkin Pie, and
Peanuts Pumpkin Pie Bars.

Just a short newsletter this time. I mainly wanted
to be sure that no one headed off to Santa Rosa
just to buy a book that isn’t there yet.

More Peanuts book news is on the way.

The Untouchable Charlie Brown

If you look at this ad, you may be wondering (as I did when I stumbled across it) why Charlie Brown is advertising a television show in 1963… and why, of all shows, he’s advertising The Untouchables. (Or you may be one of the many people now populating the earth too …
