PEANUTS BOOKS PUBLISHED IN SPANISH IN SPAIN

I am sure there must be more Peanuts books published in Spanish, but this is as complete a list as I could make.

There are also some more books published in Spain in Catalan, another language which is spoken into a region called Cataluña. They started publishing Peanuts books in Spain in the '60s before than any edition in Spanish. I haven't included them in this list because I think it would be too much extensive.

I haven't include Latin American editions either (except my reference to “Nueva Imagen” editorial in Mexico) because there must be a lot of them and I can't discover them at the moment.

So I only speak about the Peanuts books published in Spanish in Spain.

I. REPRINT BOOKS

a) The first series I know of that reprinted Peanuts comic strips in an acceptable order was published starting in 1980 by Lumen&Gasca editorial, with identical books published in México by Nueva Imagen editorial. The two publishers must have an agreement. It started from the strips from 1974 to the end of seventies, and then it went to the sixties strips. The titles I know of are the following:

b) The second and most important series started publishing in 1980 and it is still running (the last was number 35). It has the comic strips from 1980 to 1998 (1999-00 is still awaiting publication). It has a wonderful chronological order except the reprint of the years 1980-82 which doesn't follow the proper order, but I think they are complete anyway. Grijalbo started publishing the series and in 1999 was sold to Norma editorial, the current publisher.

Most of these books are still in print. Each books contains approximately seven months of strips. They are exact chronologically reprinted books from the last twenty years. Americans can buy them on-line in: www.normacomics.com. Each book costs around $5 and the shipping $25.

III. EDUCATIONAL BOOKS:

The set of books “El gran libro de las preguntas y respuestas de Carlitos (1-12)” published by Grijalbo/Dargaud in 1985 is the translation from the series of 5 books “Charlie Brown's Super Books of Questions and Answers”. You can still special order some volumes through Amazon.com.

They also produced a translation of Charlie Brown's Dictionary as "Gran Diccionario de Carlitos", published in three volumes by Ediciones Junior.

I am sure there must be more educational English books translated into Spanish and published in the '80s.

IV. ANIMATED ADAPTATIONS:

V. OTHER SERIES:

The first edition I know published in Spain was printed by Burulan Comics from 1971 to 1974. It was a collection published in Spain and Latin America. They were small books (65 pages), published monthly, with daily and colored Sunday strips mixing strips from 1960's with 1970's. Each book contains around a month of reprinted strips, but it doesn't follow any chronological order. Peanuts share the book with another comic characters called “The cebollitas” (by Rudolph Dirks).

  As far as I know there are 43 titles but surprisingly number 38 has the same contain than number 1, but with a different title and so on (number 39 has the same comic strips than number 2, but changing the title, etc).

40. La cometa de Carlitos (same as Snoopy escritor).
41. Tiempo de jugar. (same as Apuros escolares).

In 1982 there was a comics series published by Grijalbo-Dargaud which had some books of Snoopy comic strips:

- 9. Snoopy y el barón rojo. Selected comic strips from 1974-78.
- 11. Snoopy escritor.

Season theme. There were four books published in 1987 by Montena-Mondibérica editorial, each one with strips only from a certain season:
- Primavera (spring).
- Verano (summer).
- Otoño (fall).
- Invierno (winter).
The same editorial group (Junior editions, Grijalbo-Mondadori group) published as well another book series called Snoopy Stars. They were Snoopy themes strips, a translation from british series of books "Snoopy Stars".

The last series I have seen is published by Gaviota Editorial in 1999 for children. They are English books from the Peanuts Gang series translated into Spanish:

- Es el primer día de colegio (“It´s the first day of school”).
- Mi mejor amigo, mi mantita. (“My best friend, my blanket”).
- !Qué lata!, el huerto da mucho trabajo. (“Good grief, gardening is hard work”).
- ÀTienes un hermano que se llama Spike? ("You have a brother named Spike?").
- Volveré pronto a casa, Snoopy. (“I´ll be home soon, Snoopy”).
