English-language Non-U.S. Peanuts books
April 22nd, 2008 revision
In Britain and Australia, they've had a number of books which were
just reprints of US Peanuts books. Most notable of that sort are
the Coronet books which reprint the US Fawcett Crest books. There
are 89 of these books, and they are numbered. I have a separate
page listing those. The publisher Ravette also published reprints
of the Peanuts Collector Series (although I do not yet know if
they completed the full run; apparently, they left off the last
strip in some books to have room for ads). What follows are foreign
English-language Peanuts books which are not simple reprints of
U.S. editions:
COLOUR KNIGHT
These short strip reprints, each reprinting a few Sunday strips
in color, are part of a series of Colour Knight kids books. Published
circa 1975 by Knights Books, the paperback division of Brockhampton
Press.
- Colourful Charlie Brown
- First printing -- contains 15 strips, square-bound *
- Second printing -- contains 11 strips, saddle-stitched *
- The Peanuts Season *
- Snoopy in Springtime *
- Snoopy on Stage *
HODDER & STOUGHTON COLOR EDITIONS
These are large reprints of Sunday strips in color. However, the
coloring is poor and the strips are relettered (apparently because
they were reworking some foreign-language edition.)
- The Loves Of Snoopy
- Lucy rules OK? *
- The Misfortunes of Charlie Brown *
- Snoopy And His Friends
- The Peanuts Gang *
- You're a Good Scout Snoopy *
- Snoopy And His Friends & The Loves Of Snoopy (Double
Volume) * (HB)
- You're a Good Scout Snoopy, The Peanuts Gang, & Lucy
rules OK? (Triple Volume)
PEANUTS GUIDE TO LIFE
Ravette took the single-volume US Peanuts Guide To Life and broke it down into a series of three hardcover gift books.
- Peanuts Guide to Life Book 1 *
- Peanuts Guide to Life Book 2 *
- Peanuts Guide to Life Book 3 *
SCHOOL PEANUTS
Most purely Enligsh Peanuts book are published in North America,
England, or Australia, of course. The Japanese have some books
that reprint strips in English, but those books also have the Japanese
translations of the text. However, I have found one set of all-English
Peanuts paperbacks that are published in Denmark, of all places!
The School Peanuts books are designed for students in non-English-speaking
countries who are studying English. The pages alternate between
strips and discussions of the aspects of American culture (baseball,
TV, Halloween, and so on) mentioned in the strips. There may be
more to the series than are listed here; I only know of these because
of the volume of this series that I have.
- School Peanuts 1
- School Peanuts 2 *
- School Peanuts 3 *
Budget in Australia and Ravette Limited in England put out the Snoopy series
of paperback strip reprint books starting in 1987, each about
80 pages long, each page having 2 dailies or one Sunday strip
in black-and-white. The volumes are numbered, but the numbering
systems differ between the two publishers/
- It's a Dog's Life * (dailies from 1983-1984; Budget edition
is number 2)
- Roundup * (Sundays from 1984-1985)
- Freewheelin' * (dailies from 1982-1983)
- Joe Cool * (Sundays from 1982-1984; only reprints 76 strips
despite the cover claim that it features over 150 humorous
strips featuring the world's favourite beagle--and not
all of the strips have Snoopy in them anyway!)
- Chariots For Hire * (dailies, 1983-1985, although the indica
incorrectly indicates that they're all from 1985)
A series of horizontally-orinted color volumes reprint only
Sunday strips, with the full first panel, and in color. These
are particularly attractive to the Peanuts fan, as the standard
US reprint books are not in color and rarely have the full Sundays.
- First Serve *
- Be Prepared *
- Stay Cool *
- Shall We Dance? *
- Come Fly With Me
- Let's Go *
- Are Magic *(Note: the copyright page indicates that this
is based on a German edition--and while the text is the original
English text, two of the strips (9/17/72 and 6/17/73) have
what appear to be German words in the opening frame. Also,
the copyright page lists the wrong copyright date for the strips;
it contains most but not all of the Sunday strips from 10/10/71
to 9/9/73, in order)
- Hit the Headlines *

SNOOPY STARS and SNOOPY FEATURES
This numbered series of black-and-white books in standard paperback
format focuses on Snoopy in each of his various guises. They were
published by Ravette starting in 1988, with Budget publishing Australian
versions of at least some of the books using a different numbering
scheme. Some (possibly all) of the first 13 books were published
in two editions. The most immediately obvious change in the revised
edition is that they have page numbers. A little closer attention
will show that some (not all) of the strips are different from
the original, unnumbered edition. (I'm still trying to find people
who have examples of some of the numbered editions of these earlier
books.) Several of these titles were reprinted in 2000-2001 as
part of the Snoopy Features series.

SNOOPY ANNUAL
British "annuals" are hardcover books generally filled
with comics mixed with articles, puzzles, and prose stories, and
the Snoopy annuals are no exception. These are published by Ravette.
They even colored in the daily strips!
- Snoopy Annual 1990 *
- The 1991 Snoopy Annual *
- Snoopy Annual (no date on cover, 1991 copyright date --
cover has Snoopy reading the Annual) *
- Snoopy Annual (no date on cover, 1992 copyright date --
cover has CB, Snoopy, and Woodstock on sled) *
WEEKENDER
Published in Australia by Budget and in Britain by Ravette.
- Weekender *
- Snoopy's Long Weekender *
WHITE KNIGHT
These strip reprints, were published by Knights Books, the paperback
division of Brockhampton Press. Until the arrival of the Complete
Peanuts series, this had been considered a great set of books
to get, because it has plenty of early strips that had never been
reprinted in US books.
- Meet the Peanuts Gang published 1969, includes strips
from 1950-'52, '56, and '62 *
- Don't tread on Charlie Brown published 1970, includes
strips from 1950-'52, '56, and '62 *
- What were you saying, CB? published 1971, strips from
1955 *
OTHER BRITISH STRIP REPRINTS
These books are not part of any series that I can recognize.
- The Best Of Snoopy Reprints the color Sunday strips from
The Snoopy Festival, except for the first 10, and leaves
out all of the dailies. Published in 1983 by Houder & Stroughton *
- Peanuts Apparently the very first British Peanuts book,
published by the newspaper The Daily Sketch. A partial reprint
of the U.S. book More Peanuts. *
- Peanuts At School reprints portions of Classroom Peanuts,
published in hardcover by Houder & Stroughton, and in
softcover by Ravette * (HB)
- Peanuts Treasury A retitling of Peanuts At School,
published by Ravette in paperback in 2001. Do not
confuse with the U.S. book of the same name.
- Snoopy Classics U.K. reworking of the U.S. book Peanuts
Classics, replacing some of the pages of dailies with more
recent ('70's-'80's) dailies. Published circa 1989 in hardcover
by Houder & Stroughton, and softcover by Ravette.
- Peanuts Anniversary Treasury A retitling of Snoopy
Classics, published by Ravette in paperback in 2000 *
- Snoopy Treasury This book takes most of the U.S. book
Peanuts Treasury and mixes in the color pages from Sandlot
Peanuts, and then adds a Schulz intro that isn't from either
of the books -- I have yet to try to track down where it
comes from. Published in 1990 by W.H. Smith *
- Snoopy Parade * (HB) apparently originally published by
Hodder & Stoughton, I have the Book Club Associated edition
- Snoopy: Swings Into Action * Comics Album #1, published
by Ravette in 1992. Includes most of the 1988 Sundays in color.
- You Don't Look 40, Charlie Brown A British reprint of
the U.S. book You Don't Look 35, Charlie Brown
- You Really Don't Look 50, Charlie Brown Another version
of the same book with a few pages added of newer strips,
published by Ravette in paperback in 2000 *
BRITISH STORYBOOKS
These don't really quite belong on this page, but I wanted to record
their existence and didn't feel like adding a new page at the moment.
These are little hardcover books with original stories by Gordon
Volke, illustrated with recycled Schulz art, published by Ladybird.
- Snoopy In Disguise *
- Snoopy to the Rescue *
And these are board storybooks published by Ravette, each with
a loop on it so that you can use it as a Christmas tree ornament:
- Snoopy: No Home for Christmas *
- Snoopy: Desert Christmas *
- Snoopy: Pantomime Puppets *
- Snoopy: Saves the Day *
BRITISH ADAGE BOOKS
The British versions of the following books vary in text and images
from their U.S. equivalents:
- Happiness is a Warm Puppy Published by WH Collins
- I need all the Friends I can get published by Hamlyn
These hardcover titles published by Ravette do not have American equivalents (although I have not checked the contents; it is possible that they cull their material from the revised editions of the US adage books:
- best friends... understand sharing
*
- a friend is... forever *
- true love is... complete trust *
PEANUTS LITTLE BOOKS
These books are original British books, pairing quotes from the
strip with art taken from the strip.
- Snoopy's Little Book of Laughter *
- Lucy's Little Book of Advice *
- Charlie Brown's Little Book of Wisdom *
- Peppermint Patty's Little Book of Blunders *
- Educating Peanuts *
- Charlie Brown's Little Book of Friendship *
- Snoopy's Little Book of Style *
- Peanuts' Little Book of Life *
ODD BOOKS
- Snoopy's Book of Colours --the British edition of Snoopy's
Book of Colors, merely with a British-spelled title. Oh,
I am sadly obsessive. *
