PEANUTS ANIMATED BOOKS

Begun 1996. April 27th, 2008 revision

There have been dozens of Peanuts cartoons, and many of them have been adapted into books. Some of these books are listed as being "book-and-record" edition, which means they were sold with a record or cassette that a kid was supposed to play, and read the book along with the recording.
  • Be My Valentine, CB --Random House * (HB)
  • Be My Valentine, CB --Little Simon Smaller than the standard Little Simon edition, this book came packaged in the Peanuts Valentine Craft Kit *
  • Be My Valentine, CB - Running Press Kids * (HB) Heart-shaped hardcover
  • Be My Valentine, CB - Running Press * (HB) mini book
  • Bon Voyage, CB (And Don't Come Back!!) *
  • A Boy Named CB * (HB)
  • A CB Christmas --World Publishing version (this one was actually drawn by Dale Hale before the cartoon was completed. He told me that it was used as a visual base for the cartoon... and since it came before hand, it is not as true to the finished cartoon as the later versions. Copright date is 1965) Also available packaged with a snow cube from Barnes&Noble in 2007 * (HB)
  • A CB Christmas --book & record version(this one has different art taken from the animation itself. Copyright date is 1977.) *
  • A CB Christmas --Random House version (this one has art taken from the animation itself. It opens and closes with sheet music for traditional Christmas songs. Copyright date is 1977.) * (HB)
  • A CB Christmas --Golden Book version (This one has original art, using Schulz character drawings from the strip with new, non-Schulz backgrounds Copyright date is 1988.) * (HB)
  • A CB Christmas --Little Simon version (drawn by Paige Braddock. Copyright date is 2001) *
  • A CB Christmas --Little Simon deluxe version (mostly same as standard, in hardcover with CD) * (HB)
  • A CB Christmas --Little Simon Kohl's Collector's Edition (mostly same as standard, in hardcover, oversized, no CD) * (HB)
  • A CB Christmas --Running Press version (reworked Schulz art, a small gift book with bookmark ribbon from which dangles a metal Christmas tree-shaped weight) * (HB)
  • CB is Lost! adapted from The CB And Snoopy Show; not listed as being "by Schulz" *
  • A CB Thanksgiving --Random House version * (HB)
  • A CB Thanksgiving --Little Simon version *
  • A CB Thanksgiving --Little Simon version * (HB)
  • A Charlie Brown Valentine * (Little Simon, also available as a hardcover published by Weekly Reader and offered through QVC as part of a package of otherwise non-Peanuts books) * (HB, WR)
  • A CB Valentine --Running Press minigift book version *
  • CB's All-stars * (HB)
  • CB's All-stars (book-and-record edition; a different adaptation from the standard version) *
  • CB's Yearbook (this collects CB's All Stars, "He's Your Dog, CB!", It's the Great Pumpkin,CB, and You're in Love, CB into a single volume) * (HB)
  • Happy New Year, CB *
  • Here's To You, America * (Adapts the "Birth Of The Constituion" episode of the This Is America, Charlie Brown miniseries.)
  • "He's Your Dog, CB!" * (HB)
  • "He's Your Dog, CB!" (book-and-record edition; a different adaptation from the standard version) *
  • Hooray For You, Charlie Brown This is kind of a hybrid between a storybook and a coloring book. It reprints several of the Random House adaptations in black and white: It's a Mystery, Charlie Brown, There's No Time For Love, Charlie Brown, and You're A Good Sport, Charlie Brown. It is billed as "a storybook to color", rather than a coloring book with stories, so I guess it qualfies for this list.) *
  • I Want A Dog For Christmas, Charlie Brown *
  • I Want A Dog For Christmas, Charlie Brown -- Kohl's Collector's Edition * (larger hardcover)
  • Is This Good-bye, Charlie Brown? * (HB)
  • It was a Short Summer, CB *
  • It was a Short Summer, CB (book-and-record edition; a different adaptation from the standard version) *
  • It's a Mystery, CB * (HB)
  • It's a Mystery, CB * (book-and-record edition; a different adaptation from the standard version, but using much of the same art)
  • It's Another Holiday, Charlie Brown (a "storybook to color" similar to Hooray For You, Charlie Brown, this one reprints Be My Valentine, CB, It's Arbor Day, CB, It's The Easter Beagle, CB, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and A Charlie Brown Christmas.) *
  • It's Arbor Day, CB *

  • It's the Easter Beagle, CB * (HB)
  • It's the Easter Beagle, CB * (Little Simon edition)
  • It's the Easter Beagle, CB * (Running Press edition, with stickers)

  • It's the Great Pumpkin, CB (Running Press kids board book with stickers) * (HB)
  • It's the Great Pumpkin Story Book * (This 1991 Duracell giveaway retells the story from the It's the Great Pumpkin, CB TV special, but is not a reprint of a previous adaptation. The text is all dialog, no narration, and the pictures are nicely reworked Schulz art, rather than reproductions of cels. It's in an odd format, a booklet about 2.5 inches wide by about 8 inches tall.)
  • It's the Great Pumpkin, CB Peanuts Halloween Super Coloring & Activity Book * (Again, I don't usually list coloring books, but it seems appropriate to have this here for completeness. Uses reworked Schulz art, including figures that were seen in the Duracell giveaway. Published in 2000 or earlier.)
